If your idea of a good weekend involves rollercoasters, water slides and a stretch of ECR views along the way, MGM Dizzee World checks all three boxes. It sits on East Coast Road near Muttukadu, roughly 25 to 30 kilometres south of the city, and for a lot of Chennai families it has become the go to combination of amusement park and beach road day trip.
What Is MGM Dizzee World?
MGM Dizzee World started life years ago as MGM Beach Resort and later went through a phase as Dizzy World before settling into its current identity. It occupies a large site right on ECR, close to Muttukadu boat house, and combines a dry ride amusement park with a separate water park section, all under one entry ticket. It is smaller and generally a touch less polished than some of the newer parks further out of the city, but it makes up for that with a genuinely appealing setting, a sea breeze drifting in off the coast, and prices that tend to sit lower than the bigger competition.
Rides and Water Park
The dry park has a reasonable spread of rides, a few thrill oriented ones for teenagers and adults, a giant wheel, and a set of milder rides for younger children and anyone who would rather keep both feet on solid ground. It is not trying to compete on scale with the very largest parks in the state, and that is not really a criticism, it simply means shorter queues and an easier day if you have small children in tow. The water park side has slides of different sizes, a wave pool, and a family pool area, enough to fill several hours of a hot afternoon. The beachside setting genuinely adds something here. Even the walk between ride zones has a coastal feel to it that you do not get at parks tucked away inland.
Ticket Prices
MGM Dizzee World has generally positioned itself as the more affordable option among Chennai’s amusement parks. Combo tickets covering both dry rides and the water park typically fall somewhere in the Rs 700 to Rs 1,000 range for adults, with lower rates for children, and there are sometimes weekday or off peak discounts worth asking about at the counter or checking online before you go. As with any park, rates get revised periodically, so treat this as a sensible working range rather than gospel and confirm current prices before you head out.
Timings
The park typically opens around 10am or 11am and runs through to about 6pm, with the water rides sometimes closing a little earlier than the dry section as the afternoon cools off. Weekends and public holidays can bring extended hours and noticeably larger crowds, so if you are after a quieter, more relaxed visit a weekday trip is the better bet.
How to Reach MGM Dizzee World
Getting there is straightforward if you are already familiar with ECR. From central Chennai it is roughly a 45 minute to one hour drive south along East Coast Road, and because the road itself is one of the more scenic drives near the city, the journey is part of the appeal rather than something to endure. This location makes it easy to combine with other stops on the same stretch of coast, a visit to Muttukadu boat house just up the road, or even continuing on towards Mahabalipuram if you want to turn it into a fuller day trip along ECR rather than a single destination outing. Public transport options are limited compared with driving, so a car, cab, or share auto from a nearby town is the practical way to get there for most visitors.
Best Time to Visit
Weekday mornings are the quietest time to go, with shorter lines for the popular rides and more space in the pools. Like any water park in the region, the monsoon months bring the risk of rides being paused for safety during heavy rain, so it is worth checking the weather forecast before committing to the trip. Summer sees the biggest crowds, understandably, since a water park is exactly where everyone wants to be when the heat sets in.
Practical Tips
- Carry swimwear, a towel and a change of clothes for the water section, plus sunscreen for the dry park.
- Lockers are usually available for storing valuables and clothes while you are on the water rides.
- The on site food options cover the basics, but if you are combining the visit with a longer ECR trip, Muttukadu has a few casual eateries nearby too.
- Since it sits directly on ECR, plan your return journey with Chennai’s evening traffic in mind, especially on weekends.
MGM Dizzee World will not out muscle the bigger parks on sheer scale, but for a relaxed, reasonably priced day of rides and water slides with a coastal backdrop, especially if you are already planning an ECR outing, it earns its place on the list.
